Chris Rouse, the founder of New Clear Free Solutions, developed an Integrated Resource Plan for New Brunswick that achieves a 95% Renewable energy solution through public investments. In this video presentation, Chris discusses his IRP that offers the least cost sustainable solution to our environmental problems that benefits all New Brunswicker both now and in the future.

The event was organized by the Coalition for Responsible Energy Development in New Brunswick (CRED-NB), Extinction Rebellion New Brunswick, and the RAVEN project (Rural Action and Voices for the Environment) at the University of New Brunswick.

CRED-NB pre-budget submission to the New Brunswick government

Today we sent to the New Brunswick government and the opposition parties our submission to the pre-budget consultations. In the throne speech last year, the government missed the opportunity to announce a bold plan for renewable energy and energy-saving retrofits. Instead, the speech mentioned the new nuclear reactors proposed for the province.

CCNB critical of NB Power’s latest plan

We need more renewable energy in NB Power’s plan for the future
Today on CBC New Brunswick’s radio program Shift, Dr. Louise Comeau lays bare the problems with NB Power’s planning for future energy production strategy. NB Power’s 20-year Integrated Resource Plan receives a very critical analysis from the Conservation Council of New Brunswick’s Director of Climate Change and Energy Program.

Some quotable statements Dr. Comeau’s interview include:
* emissions that we see today from NB Power [power plants] will not change at all for the next 20 years.
* if you don’t think  climate change is a risk then I don’t know what is
* the technology for solar and wind that ensure that we have firm capacity are engineering challenges being solved every day
* we need new transmission investment .. the federal government has made funding available .. transmission connections are essential
* we need to reform the Electricity Act
* we need to work closely with public stakeholders in a true, honest way, where you are influencing the analysis and you are sharing ideas.
 
Concerning proposed SMR nuclear reactors ..
* we are talking about a new technology that is not yet built so we don’t have a lot of experience with it, we can expect cost overruns and delays and so on.
* One of the proposals in NB Power in its IRP is .. to wait and see on this nuclear piece, and that is dangerous in the sense that now nuclear is causing an increased greenhouse gas emissions
* we need to pursue all cost-effective solutions available today
*people have concerns about nuclear waste and safety issues, and from a pure affordability perspective, they can get something better ..

Green Party leader calls for Higgs government to commit to an ambitious renewable energy target

Leader of the Green Party of New Brunswick David Coon issued a statement today calling on the Higgs government to commit to an ambitious target to grow the renewable energy industry in New Brunswick, rather than continuing down path of expensive and risky nuclear power generation. Wind And Solar Energy Are The Future, Not Nuclear Power

Amit Virmani, CEO of Naveco Energy in New Brunswick, recently wrote an article in Huddle explaining why wind and solar, not nuclear, are the energy sources we need to be developing now. You can read his story here.

He discusses why wind and solar energy are clean, affordable, efficient, quicker to build, less risky overall, and more rapidly developing than nuclear energy. Wind and solar energy represent the best opportunities we have at present to transition to clean, renewable energy.

Webinar: Roundtable on solar energy in New Brunswick

The Coalition for Responsible Energy Development in New Brunswick hosted a webinar today organized by MJM Solar Solutions.

We gathered solar experts and leaders from New Brunswick to discuss how we can work together to increase NB’s Green Energy. The webinar participants discussed solar installations, job creation, community engagement, technical and real world applications of solar in NB, training, and policy.
